# Lumen 1.2.0 desktop kit

Requires Node.js 18 or newer. No account or internet required to run programs.
Lumen is an interpreted language; Node runs the included interpreter.

## Install the terminal command
Windows: double-click install.bat. It runs install.ps1 to update your user PATH.
macOS/Linux: sh install.sh. If prompted, add ~/.local/bin to your shell PATH.
Keep the extracted folder in place. Open a new terminal after installation.
Change directory to the folder containing your program, then run:
  lumen hello.lum
  lumen examples/json.lum
  lumen --version
  lumen                    (interactive shell)
Without installation: node lumen.cjs hello.lum

## Notepad++ on Windows
1. Language > User Defined Language > Define your language > Import.
2. Select editors/lumen-notepadplusplus.xml, then restart Notepad++.
3. Open or create a file and save it as hello.lum (not hello.lum.txt).
4. Select Lumen from the Language menu if needed.
5. Run it from a terminal: lumen "C:\path to your code\hello.lum"
   Or Run > Run in Notepad++: cmd /k lumen "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
The XML adds syntax highlighting; Notepad++ edits code, the interpreter runs it.

## GitHub and Codespaces
Commit your .lum programs, lumen.cjs, and .github/workflows/lumen.yml to your repository.
Keep hello.lum at the repository root for the included workflow, or change its path.
GitHub Actions runs hello.lum on each push or pull request using Node.js 22.
In a Codespaces terminal: node lumen.cjs hello.lum
Use lumen.cjs rather than lumen.js inside repositories with "type": "module".
GitHub hosts your code; this kit does not create or publish a repository for you.

## Examples
JSON conversion, sorting and searching collections, map helpers, continue loops, string tools, list reshaping and math helpers.
Terminal errors return a nonzero exit code, so GitHub Actions marks broken programs as failed.
